If unable to backwash the side of the coil opposite that of the coils entering airside, then surface loaded fibers or dirt should be removed witha vacuum cleaner. If a vacuum cleaner is not available, a softnon-metallic bristle brush may be used. In either case, the toolshould be applied in the direction of the fins. Coil surfaces canbe easily damaged (fin edges bent over) if the tool is appliedacross the fins.NOTE: Use of a water stream, such as a garden hose, against a surface loaded coil will drive the fibers anddirt into the coil. This will make cleaning efforts moredifficult. Surface loaded fibers must be completelyremoved prior to using low velocity clean water rinse.Periodic Clean Water RinseA monthly clean water rinse is recommended for coils that areapplied in coastal or industrial environments to help to removechlorides, dirt and debris. An elevated water temperature (notto exceed 130ºF) will reduce surface tension, increasing theability to remove chlorides and dirt. Pressure washer PSI mustnot exceed 900 psig and the nozzel should remain at leat 1 footfrom the coil to avoid damaging fin edges.Routine Quarterly Cleaning of Option E Coated CoilSurfacesQuarterly cleaning is essential to extend the life of an OptionE Coated Coil and is required to maintain warranty coverage.Coil cleaning shall be part of the unit’s regularly scheduledmaintenance procedures. Failure to clean an Option E CoatedCoil will void the warranty and may result in reduced efficiencyand durability in the environment. For routine quarterly cleaning, first clean the coil with thebelow approved coil cleaner (see approved products list underRecommended Coil Cleaners section, Table 35). After cleaningthe coils with the approved cleaning agent, use the approvedchloride remover (under the Recommended Chloride Removersection) to remove soluble salts and revitalize the unit.Table 35: Option E Coated Coil Recommended CleaningAgentsCleaning Agent Reseller Part NumberEnviro-Coil ConcentrateHydro-Balance CorpP O Box 730Prosper, TX 75078800-527-5166H-EC01Enviro-Coil Concentrate Home Depot H-EC01Chloride RemoverChlor*Rid Int’l, Inc.P O Box 908Chandler AZ 85244800-422-3217Chlor*Rid DTS
