8.3 Fuses8.3.1 IntroductionUse fuses and/or circuit breakers on the supply side toprotect service personnel and equipment from injuries anddamage in case of component breakdown inside thefrequency converter (first fault).WARNINGPersonnel and property must be protected in case ofinternal component breakdown in the frequencyconverter.Branch circuit protectionAll branch circuits in an installation, switch gear, machinesetc. must be protected against short circuit andovercurrent according to national/international regulations.NOTICEThe recommendations do not cover branch circuitprotection for UL.Table 8.4 lists the recommended fuses that have beentested. If fuses are selected according to recommendations, possible damages on the frequency converter can belimited to inside the unit.WARNINGMalfunction or failing to follow the recommendationmay result in personnel risk and damage to thefrequency converter and other equipment.8.3.2 CE ComplianceNOTICEUsing fuses or circuit breakers is mandatory to ensurecompliance with IEC 60364 for CE.Danfoss recommends using the fuses in Table 8.4 on acircuit capable of delivering 100,000 Arms (symmetrical),380–480 V depending on the frequency converter voltagerating. With the proper fusing, the frequency convertershort circuit current rating (SCCR) is 100,000 Arms.EnclosuretypePower [kW] CE compliance fuseJ10.37–1.1gG-101.52.2J23.0gG-254.05.5J3 7.5 gG-32J4 11–15 gG-50J5 18.5 gG-8022J630gG-1253745J7 55 aR-25075Table 8.4 CE Fuse, 380–480 V, Enclosure Types J1–J7Specifications Quick GuideMG06A502 Danfoss A/S © Rev. 06/2014 All rights reserved. 518 8
