90 Error Recovery and MessagesMending a Broken Ink Ribbon or Retransfer FilmIf the ink ribbon or retransfer film breaks, Ink Search or Media Search is displayed on the LCDpanel. Broken ink ribbon is shown in the following example; repairing broken retransfer film usesthe same steps.1. Power off the printer.2. Open the printer door.3. Press the release button for the appropriate cartridge and remove the cartridge from theprinter.4. Trim the ends of the broken portions evenly.Do not remove the used ink ribbon or film from the take‐up spool.(Removing and then reinstalling the ribbon on the take‐up spool maycause print quality issues for the next few cards.)5. Align the ends of the broken media evenly and apply tape to securethem.6. Turn the take‐up spool counterclockwise until the mended portion iswound onto the spool two or three turns.7. Make sure that the yellow panel aligns with the arrow on thecartridge.8. Reinstall the cartridge into the printer until it clicks into position.9. Close the printer door.10. Initialize the supplies as described in “Initializing the Ink Ribbon andRetransfer Film” on page 22.
