A-8 POWERSCAN D8590 User’s ManualMaintenanceAppendix D — MaintenanceThe POWERSCAN D8590 provides reliable and efficient operation with a minimum ofcare. Although specific maintenance is not required, the following periodic checks ensuredependable operation.Cleaning the POWERSCAN D8590 WindowThe POWERSCAN D8590 has a clear, anti-reflective coated optical window that protectsthe POWERSCAN D8590 illumination system and optics. The window should be clean to allowoptimum performance. The POWERSCAN D8590 uses technology that is much like a digitalcamera, and marks or debris on the window will interfere with image captures. Avoid touchingthe coated surface, as fingerprints may impede decode performance.In many cases the window can be cleaned by wiping with a lint-free lens cloth to removedust, debris, and fingerprints. Care should be taken not to apply too much pressure, as atrapped particle may scratch the window.If cleaning of the window becomes necessary, follow this procedure:• Use a minimal amount of Isopropyl Alcohol to dampen. Do not saturate the surface, asthis may cause streaking.• Drag the moistened cotton swab, cotton ball, or soft, clean cloth across the coated surface.Do not rub.• Repeat this procedure until no contaminants remain.Note: Many products designed for cleaning plastic lens eyewear, such as pre-moistenedtowelettes or lens cloths, can be used to clean the POWERSCAN D8590 window.Cleaning the POWERSCAN D8590 HousingIf the housing becomes dirty, clean it with a soft, non-abrasive cloth that has been moistenedwith water. A mild detergent may be used to clean the housing, but the detergent shouldthen be rinsed away with a water-moistened cloth.Caution: Do not submerge the POWERSCAN D8590 in water. The housing is not water-tight. Do not use abrasive cloths or tissues on the POWERSCAN D8590 window — abrasivecloths or tissues may scratch the window.
