50Restoring Your Operating SystemYou can restore your operating system in thefollowing ways:System• Restore returns your computer to anearlier operating state without affecting datafiles. Use System Restore as the first solutionfor restoring your operating system andpreserving data files.Dell Factory Image Restore returns your hard•drive to the operating state it was in whenyou purchased the computer. This procedurepermanently deletes all data on the harddrive and removes any programs installedafter you received the computer. Use DellFactory Image Restore only if SystemRestore did not resolve your operatingsystem problem.If you received an•Operating System discwith your computer, you can use it to restoreyour operating system. However, using theOperating System disc also deletes all dataon the hard drive. Use the disc only if SystemRestore did not resolve your operatingsystem problem.System RestoreThe Windows operating systems providea System Restore option which allowsyou to return your computer to an earlieroperating state (without affecting data files) ifchanges to the hardware, software, or othersystem settings have left the computer in anundesirable operating state. Any changes thatSystem Restore makes to your computer arecompletely reversible.CAUTION: Make regular backups of yourdata files.
