Managing General System Settings 245The Banner can provide information about the switch status. For example, ifmultiple users connect to the switch, the message of the day (MOTD) bannermight alert everyone who connects to the switch about a scheduled switchimage upgrade. What is Simple Mode? The PowerConnect M6220, M6348, M8024, and M8024-k switches support asimple operational mode to allow auto configuration of complex networksetting. Simple mode minimizes the administration required for managingthe blade-centric switch blades as aggregation devices. The Port Aggregatorfeature is available only when the switch is operating in Simple mode. When Simple mode is enabled, negotiation, speed, duplex, VLAN, and MTUconfigurations are allowed on the Aggregator Group but not on the individualports. These configurations are applied to all the member ports of theAggregator Group.Simple mode has the following characteristics:• A user with privilege level 15 can change the mode of operation using theCLI, Web, and SNMP interfaces.• Operational mode is set to Normal mode on resetting the configuration toFactory defaults from the software boot menu.• When you change the operational mode, a trap is generated apart fromlogging a message.• A limited set of configuration options are available from the web-basedinterface, CLI, and SNMP. Additionally, SNMPv3 is not available.• Routing -related features and QoS, are not supported.• The switch maintains two separate configuration files, one for Simplemode and another for Normal mode. The selection of the configurationfile while applying the configuration is based on the mode selection. Ifthere is no saved configuration, then the default configuration of theselected mode is applied.NOTE: The PowerConnect M8024-k switch operates in Simple mode by default. The PowerConnect M6220, M6348, and M8024 switches operate in normal mode, with Simple mode disabled, by default.
