Switch Features 59Stacking Features (PCM6220, PCM6348, andPCM8024-k Only)For information about creating and maintaining a stack of switches, see"Managing a Switch Stack" on page 143.High Port CountYou can connect up to 12 PowerConnect M6220 switches or 12PowerConnect M6348 switches in a single stack to increase the port count. The PowerConnect M8024-k supports high performance stacking for up to sixsystems using the 10G SFP+ ports.Single IP ManagementWhen multiple switches are connected together through the stack ports, theyoperate as a single unit with a larger port count. The stack operates and ismanaged as a single entity. One switch acts as the master, and the entire stackis managed through the management interface (Web, CLI, or SNMP) of thestack master.Automatic Firmware Update for New Stack MembersBy default, if a switch is added to a stack and the switch is running a differentbackup version of firmware than the active version on the stack master, thebackup firmware on the new member is automatically updated to match thestack master, the backup version of firmware on the new member is activated, and the new member is rebooted.Stacking Compatibility with the PowerConnect 7000 SeriesPowerConnect M6348 switches and PowerConnect 7000 Series switches canbe members of the same stack. The stack can contain any combination ofswitch models in the PowerConnect 7000 Series and M6348 switches as longas all switches are running the same firmware version.NOTE: PowerConnect M6220 switches can be stacked only with otherPowerConnect M6220 switches, and PowerConnect M8024-k switches can bestacked only with other PowerConnect M8024-k switches.PCM6220, PCM8024-k,and PCM6348 switches cannot be combined within the same stack.
