46Restoring Your Operating SystemSystem RestoreThe Microsoft Windows operating systemsprovide a System Restore option which allowsyou to return your computer to an earlieroperating state (without affecting data files) ifchanges to the hardware, software, or othersystem settings have left the computer in anundesirable operating state. Any changes thatSystem Restore makes to your computer arecompletely reversible.CAUTION: Make regular backups ofyour data files. System Restore does notmonitor your data files or recover them.Starting System Restore1. Click Start .2. In the search box, type System Restoreand press .NOTE: The User Account Control windowmay appear. If you are an administrator onthe computer, click Continue; otherwise,contact your administrator to continue thedesired action.3. Click Next and follow the instructions onthe screen.In the event that System Restore did notresolve the issue, you may undo the lastsystem restore.
