76Chapter 13 TroubleshootingProblem 1: Low reading efficiency.Probable cause What to do:• A target bar code is not within the scan range ofthe reading window.• Bring a bar code within the scan range.(See Chapter 3.)• The bar code may be smeared. • Wipe off the dirt from the bar code.• The bar code may be blurred. • Use a bar code clearly printed.Problem 2: Cannot read bar codes.Probable cause What to do:• The type of the bar code to be scanned has notbeen set as a readable code.• Set the bar code type as a readable code.(See Section 12.2.)• The scanned bar code contains no check digit,while the "Enable, with C/D" parameter isselected.• Select the "Enable, without C/D" parameter.(See Section 12.2.)• The check digit contained in the scanned bar codeis wrong.• Use a correct bar code.• The power saving function built in the computermay be activated.• Deactivate the power saving function.Problem 3: Incorrect bar code data displayed on the computer screen.Probable cause What to do:• The communications conditions of the scanner aredifferent from those of the connected host.• Change the communications conditions of the scannerto match those of the connected host.
