This gas is com-monly known as wellhead gas.Installation Items NeededBefore installing heater, make sure you have theitems listed below.• external regulator - propane/LP only (suppliedby installer)• piping (check local codes)• sealant (resistant to propane/LP gas)• equipment shutoff valve *• test gauge connection *• sediment trap• tee joint• pipe wrench* A CSA design-certified equipment shutoff valvewith 1/8" NPT tap is an acceptable alternative totest gauge connection. Purchase the optional CSAdesign-certified equipment shutoff valve from yourdealer. See Accessories, page 27.The gas inlet connection for the stove heater islocated on the lower right-hand side of the stovewhen viewed from the front of the unit. The gasconnection can be made either through the bot-tom right side or through the lower back openingas illustrated in Figure 14. Make sure gas log heateris secured to the stove cavity assembly. For propane/LP units, installer must supply anexternal regulator. The external regulator will re-duce incoming gas pressure. You must reduce in-coming gas pressure to between 11 and 14 inchesof water. If you do not reduce incoming gas pres-sure, heater regulator damage could occur. Installexternal regulator with the vent pointing down asshown in Figure 15. Pointing the vent down pro-tects it from freezing rain or sleet.CAUTION: Use only new, black iron or steel pipe. Inter-nally-tinned copper tubing maybe used in certain areas. Checkyour local codes. Use pipe of1/2" diameter or greater to allowproper gas volume to heater. Ifpipe is too small, undue loss ofvolume will occur.Figure 14 - Gas Regulator Location andGas Line Access Into Stove CabinetGas InletConnectionAccessGas Log HeaterBack ViewSide ViewFigure 15 - External Regulator With VentPointing DownBack StovePanelStove Unit FrontPropane/LPSupply Tank ExternalRegulatorVentPointingDownInstallation must include a equipment shutoffvalve, union, and plugged 1/8" NPT tap. LocateNPT tap within reach for test gauge hook up. NPTtap must be upstream from heater (see Figure 16on page 13).IMPORTANT: Install equipment shutoff valve inan accessible location. The equipment shutoffvalve is for turning on or shutting off the gas tothe appliances.Check your building codes for any special re-quirements for locating equipment shutoff valveto fireplaces.Apply pipe joint sealant lightly to male threads. This will prevent excess sealant from going intopipe. Excess sealant in pipe could result in cloggedheater valves.WARNING: Use pipe jointsealant that is resistant to liquidpetroleum (LP) gas.We recommend that you install a sediment trap insupply line as shown in Figure 16, page 13. Lo-cate sediment trap where it is within reach forcleaning. Install in piping system between fuelsupply and heater. Locate sediment trap wheretrapped matter is not likely to freeze. A sedimenttrap traps moisture and contaminants. This keepsthem from going into heater controls. If sedimenttrap is not installed or is installed wrong, heatermay not run properly.
