A fireplace with glass doors has alimited amount of air for combustion.Excessive heat within fireplace can result if toolarge a fire is built or if combustion air gate is notcompletely open. The following tips should befollowed to assure that both fireplace and glassdoor retain their beauty and function properly. Both flue damper and glass doors must be fullyopened before starting fire. This will providesufficient combustion air and maintain safetemperatures in firebox.IMPORTANT: The glass must be allowedto warm slowly and evenly. Tempered glasswill withstand a gradual temperature rise to550° F, which is more than a normal fire willgenerate. Such materials as pitch/wax ladenlogs, very dry mill end lumber and largeamounts of paper or cardboard boxes cancreate an excessively hot fire and should notbe burned in this fireplace. Always keep fireaway from doors and never allow flames tocontact glass.WARNING: Fireplacesequipped with glass doorsshould be operated only withdoors fully opened or doors fullyclosed. Doors, if left partly open, may draw gas and flame out ofthe fireplace opening creatingrisks of both fire and smoke.Cleaning GlassClean glass with any commercial glasscleaner or soap and water. Do not use anyabrasive material to clean glass. Do not cleanglass with any cool water if glass is still hotfrom fire and smoke.A gas line or gas log lighter may be installedfor the purpose of installing a vented or vent-free decorative gas appliance incorporating anautomatic shutoff device and complying withthe Standard for Decorative Gas Appliancesfor Installation in Vented Fireplaces, ANSIZ21.60 or American Gas Association draftrequirements for Gas Fired Log Lighters forWood Burning Fireplaces, Draft NO. 4 datedAugust, 1993.If you wish to install an unvented (vent-free)gas log set, only unvented gas log sets whichhave been found to comply with the standardfor unvented room heaters, ANSI Z21.11.2 areto be installed in this fireplace.OUTSIDE AIR AND DAMPERHANDLE OPERATIONDamper handle, which opens and closesdamper blade, is located in the upper frontface of fireplace.
