The maingas valve is for turning on or shutting off the gasto the appliance.Check your building codes for any special re-quirements for locating equipment shutoff valveto fireplaces.Apply pipe joint sealant lightly to male NPTthreads. This will prevent excess sealant fromgoing into pipe. Excess sealant in pipe could resultin clogged fireplace valves.WARNING: Use pipe jointsealant that is resistant to liquidpetroleum (LP) gas.We recommend that you install a sedimenttrap/drip leg in supply line as shown in Figure31, page 20. Locate sediment trap/drip leg whereit is within reach for cleaning. Install in pipingsystem between fuel supply and fireplace. Locatesediment trap/drip leg where trapped matter is notlikely to freeze. A sediment trap traps moisture andcontaminants. This keeps them from going intofireplace gas controls. If sediment trap/drip leg isnot installed or is installed wrong, fireplace maynot run properly.CONNECTING FIREPLACE TO GASSUPPLYInstallation Items Needed• 5/16" hex socket wrench or nut-driver• sealant (resistant to propane/LP gas, not pro-vided)1. Open lower louver door panel by gentlypulling forward.2. Route flexible gas line (provided by in-staller) from equipment shutoff valve tofireplace. Route flexible gas supply linethrough one of the access holes on side offireplace.3. Attach flexible gas line from gas supplyto control valve (see Figure 32).4. Check all gas connections for leaks. Correctall leaks at once.WARNING: Never use an openflame to check for a leak. Applynoncorrosive leak detection fluidto all joints. Bubbles forming showa leak. Correct all leaks at once.PRESSURE TESTING GAS SUPPLYPIPING SYSTEMTest Pressures In Excess Of 1/2 PSIG(3.5 kPa)1. Disconnect fireplace and its individual equip-ment shutoff valve from gas supply pipingsystem. Pressures in excess of 1/2 psig (3.5 kPa)will damage fireplace gas regulator.2. Cap off open end of gas pipe where equipmentshutoff valve was connected.3. Pressurize supply piping system by eitheropening propane/LP supply tank valve forpropane/LP gas fireplace or opening main gasvalve located on or near gas meter for naturalgas fireplace or using compressed air.4. Check all joints of gas supply piping system.Apply noncorrosive leak detection fluid to alljoints. Bubbles forming show a leak. Correctall leaks at once.5. Reconnect fireplace and equipment shutoffvalve to gas supply. Check reconnected fittingsfor leaks.
