NPT tapmust be upstream from heater (see Figure 20).IMPORTANT: Install equipment shutoff valvein an accessible location. The equipment shutoffvalve is for turning on or shutting off the gas tothe appliance.Check your building codes for any special re-quirements for locating equipment shutoff valveto fireplaces.Apply pipe joint sealant lightly to male NPTthreads. This will prevent excess sealant fromgoing into pipe. Excess sealant in pipe could resultin clogged fireplace valves.WARNING: Use pipe jointsealant that is resistant to liquidpetroleum (LP) gas.INSTALLATIONContinuedCONNECTING TO GAS SUPPLYWARNING: This appliancerequires a 45° male flare fitting5/8”-18 UNF (Unified National FineThread) inlet connection and theflexible gas line provided.WARNING: A qualified serviceperson must connect fireplace togas supply. Follow all local codes.WARNING: Never connect natu-ral gas fireplace to private (non-util-ity) gas wells. This gas is commonlyknown as wellhead gas.IMPORTANT: For natural gas, check gas line pressurebefore connecting fireplace to gas line. Gas line pressuremust be no greater than 14 inches of water. If gas line pres-sure is higher, heater regulator damage could occur.CAUTION: Never connect pro-pane/LP fireplace directly to thepropane/LP supply. This fireplacerequires an external regulator(not supplied). Install the externalregulator between the fireplaceand propane/LP supply.For propane/LP units, the installer must supplyan external regulator. The external regulator willreduce incoming gas pressure. You must reduceincoming gas pressure to between 11 and 14inches of water. If you do not reduce incoming gaspressure, fireplace regulator damage could occur.Install external regulator with the vent pointingdown as shown in Figure 19. Pointing the ventdown protects it from freezing rain or sleet.CAUTION: Use only new, blackiron or steel pipe. Internally-tinnedcopper tubing may be used in cer-tain areas. Check your local codes.Use pipe of 1/2" or greater diameterto allow proper gas volume to fire-place.
