Noncombustible materials(such as slate, marble, tile, etc.) must be at least1/2" thick. With sheet metal, you must have non-combustible material behind it. Noncombustiblematerial must extend at least 8" up (for all models).If noncombustible material is less than 12", youmust install the fireplace hood accessory (24" and30" Models Only). See Figure 5 for minimumclearances.If Using MantelYou must have noncombustible material(s) abovethe fireplace opening. Noncombustible materials(such as slate, marble, tile, etc.) must be at least1/2" thick. With sheet metal, you must have non-combustible material behind it. When using a hoodthere are still certain minimum mantel clearancesrequired. Follow minimum clearances shown inFigure 7, page 11, when using hood.
