If burner flame pattern is incorrect,• turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appli-ance, page 20)• see Troubleshooting, page 25BURNER PRIMARY AIR HOLESAir is drawn into the burner through the holes inthe fitting at the burner entrance. These holes maybecome blocked with dust or lint. Periodically in-spect these holes for any blockage and clean ifneeded. Blocked air holes will create soot.MAIN BURNERPeriodically inspect all burner flame holes withthe heater running. All slotted burner flame holesshould be open with yellow flame present. Allround burner flame holes should be open with asmall blue flame present. Some burner flame holesmay become blocked by debris or rust, with noflame present. Inspect these ar-eas of heater before each use.Have heater inspected yearly bya qualified service person.Heater may need more frequentcleaning due to excessive lintfrom carpeting, pet hair, bed-ding material, etc.WARNING: Failure to keepthe primary air opening(s) of theburner(s) clean may result insooting and property damage.BURNER INJECTOR HOLDER ANDPILOT AIR INLET HOLEThe primary air inlet holes allow the proper amountof air to mix with the gas. This provides a cleanburning flame. Keep these holes clear of dust, dirt,lint, and pet hair. Clean these air inlet holes prior toeach heating season. Blocked air holes will createsoot. We recommend that you clean the unit everythree months during operation and have heater in-spected yearly by a qualified service person.We also recommend that you keep the burner tubeand pilot assembly clean and free of dust and dirt.To clean these parts we recommend using com-pressed air no greater than 30 PSI. Your local com-puter store, hardware store, or home center maycarry compressed air in a can. You can use avacuum cleaner in the blow position. If using com-pressed air in a can, please follow the directionson the can. If you don't follow directions on thecan, you could damage the pilot assembly.1. Shut off the unit, including the pilot. Allowthe unit to cool for at least thirty minutes.
