Operating instructionsDo not connect two different phases of a multiple-phasesystem. Before closing a single-phase loop, make certainboth ends of the loop are the same phase.Loadmake operationArea must be clear of obstructions or contaminationsthat would interfere with the operation of the loadbreakconnector (LCN).Securely fasten a clampstick to the operating eye of theconnector.Place the loadbreak connector over the bushings, insertingboth white arc followers of the probes into both bushingsapproximately 1-1/2" (38 mm). This will align and stabilize theconnector.Turn your back to the bushings and grasp the clampsticksecurely and obtain good footing. Slam the connector ontothe bushing with one firm, quick, and continuous motion.Turn around and apply a force to the clampstick to push theconnector onto the bushing. The yellow latch indicator ringson the bushings should be visible in the connector cuffwindows at this point. See Figure 10.To check that the connector is properly latched apply agentle pull force to the clampstick. When latched properly, the connector will slide back off of the bushing about 1/4" (5mm) and stop. The yellow latch indicator rings on the bush-ings should not be visible at this point. See Figure 11.Figure 10. Yellow latch indicator rings are visible.YELLOWLATCHINDICATORRINGSLOADBREAKCONNECTOR (LCN)Figure 11. Yellow latch indicator rings are NOT visible.YELLOWLATCHINDICATORRINGS NOTVISIBLEWARNINGHigh Voltage. Cleer 600 A loadbreak bushings shouldonly be mated with other Cleer 600 A loadbreakproducts. Do not attempt to mate 200 A loadbreak or600 A deadbreak products to Cleer 600 A loadbreakbushings. Failure to comply could lead to a fault thatmay result in death or serious injury.WARNINGHigh Voltage. Do not close or pull the Cleer connectorslowly onto or off of the bushings during a loadmake orloadbreak operation. Failure to comply could tease thecontacts leading to excessive arcing causing a fault thatmay result in death or serious injury.WARNINGHigh Voltage. The Cleer 600 A loadbreak connectorsystem is not designed to be switched under water. When operating the Cleer 600 A loadbreak connectorsystem where moisture is present, such as during arainstorm, take steps to ensure the connector interfacesstay dry. Failure to comply could lead to a fault that mayresult in death or serious injury.WARNINGHigh Voltage. The operator should always use personalprotective equipment (insulated gloves, clampstickand eye protection) whenever operating the connector. The operator should always be in the best possibleoperating position, providing firm footing and enablinga secure grasp of the clampstick positioned to theside of one's torso, while maintaining positive controlof the connector before, during and immediatelyafter operation. If there is any question regarding theoperator's operating position, de-energize the connectorbefore operation. The operator should not be lookingdirectly at the connector during the moment of circuitinterruption or connection. Failure to comply couldresult in death or serious injury.WARNINGHigh Voltage. Verify that BOTH arc followers areapproximately 1-1/2" into the bushings. Failure tocomply could lead to a fault that may result in death orserious injury.5CLEER LOADBREAK CONNECTOR SYSTEM INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS MN650019EN March 2016
