Attempting to lever the circuit breaker in before it isfully positioned inside its compartment can result in damageto both the circuit breaker and the compartment.2-7.2 Levering circuit breakerThe circuit breaker is now ready to be levered. With thecircuit breaker OPEN, the levering device access door canbe raised. The levering device is hand operated using astandard 3/8-inch square drive and ratchet, which is notprovided (Figure 2-9). As long as the levering access dooris raised, the circuit breaker is held trip-free. Begin byrotating the levering-in screw to the full counterclockwise(DISCONNECT) position.Close the compartment door and begin levering the break-er into its different positions using a clockwise ratchetingmotion. The circuit breaker can be levered with the compart-ment door open or closed, but it is advisable to close thedoor prior to levering. The position of the circuit breaker within its compartment isindicated by color-coded position indicators (red = Connect, yellow = Test, green = Disconnect) (Figure 2-12). Whenthe circuit breaker is levered fully to the DISCONNECT orCONNECT position, the levering shaft hits a hard stop; donot exceed 34.2 Nm of torque or the levering mechanismmay be damaged. To remove the circuit breaker from itscompartment, follow the procedure just described using acounterclockwise ratcheting motion.NOTICEThe circuit breaker mechanism is interlocked such thatcharged closing springs are automatically discharged if thecircuit breaker is levered into or out of the cell. Dischargetakes place between the DISCONNECT and the TEST posi-tion.
