To begin installing Powerware LanSafe software, see the instructionsaccompanying the Software Suite CD.Powerware LanSafe software uses an RS-232 serial link to communicate with theUPS. The software provides up-to-date graphics of UPS power and system data andpower flow, a complete record of critical power events, and notification of importantUPS or power information. With custom views for monitoring status and meteringinformation, various user groups can select the most useful view for their specificneeds.12.3 Remote NotificationFor connection and setup of a modem, or to enable Remote Notify and Call Homefeatures within the UPS, please contact Eaton (see page 1-7).Remote Notification provides the UPS with the capability to use a standardoff‐the‐shelf PC modem as a telephone interface. The features provided by this optionare: Call a remote terminal or pager based on programmable events and alarms Four separate, programmable notification groups (phone numbers) Automatic answering (user-configurable) for access to the Terminal mode ofthe UPS Remote and local ability to clear Call Out alarms and events Error detection and correction for misconfigured and disconnected modems.Remote Notification provides the user with the option of receiving alarms and noticesat a remote location. Using the Terminal mode, the user calls the UPS to performbasic monitoring. In the event of a UPS alarm or notice, the user is notified at theremote location. The UPS calls through the modem to the user's computer or pagerand leaves a message.Remote Notification is an extension of the Terminal mode with the additional supportalgorithms necessary to control an external modem. Connection to the UPS is madewhen a user calls the UPS on the phone. The user has exactly the same capabilitiesas if using a terminal connected directly to an RS-232 port.
