The shutdown switch must have a set of contacts that canapply the UPS's +12 Vdc on Pin 6 to the UPS's Pin 21. (You can usePin 18 instead of Pin 6; do not use Pin 14.) Use a single twisted-pairshielded cable to connect the switch to the UPS pins. A connectionbetween Pins 6 and 21 (or 18 and 21) shuts down UPS output power tothe protected equipment.When the UPS Remote Shutdown feature has been activated, the UPSis in the Off mode and the Emergency Power Off alarm sounds. Acontrol panel or a terminal connected to the UPS displays EmergencyPwrOff.To restart the UPS, break the connection between Pins 6 and 21 (orbetween Pins 18 and 21) at the UPS's RS-232 port. Then, follow thesteps for your model in “UPS Startup” on page 17. Note that the 12Vlevel on Pin 6 or Pin 18 is only available when the UPS is operating.You can change the type of signal that the UPS responds to and howquickly it responds. You can also set up the UPS to restart automaticallywhen the shutdown signal stops. See TIP 503 or contact your servicerepresentative for more information.
