Care and CleaningStainless Steel Outdoor Cooking Center16Grill rack The easiest way to clean the grill is immediatelyafter cooking is completed and after turning offthe flame. Wear a barbeque mitt to protect yourhand from the heat and steam. Dip a brassbristle barbeque brush in tap water and scrubthe hot grill. Drip the brush frequently in thebowl of water. Steam, created as water contactsthe hot grill, assists the cleaning process bysoftening any food particles. The food particleswill fall onto the hot lava rocks and burn or fallinto the drip tray. If the grill is allowed to coolbefore cleaning, cleaning will be more difficult. For harder baked-on food particles, remove thegrill rack and soak for about one hour in warmwater. Lightly scrub with a Scotch Brite® pad.Drip trays The full width drip trays will collect grease fromthe grill section as well as boilovers and spillsfrom the range-top burners (on some models).Allow the pan and its contents to cool beforeattempting to clean. Clean the grease from thepan often to avoid the possibility of a grease fire.Lava rocks It is not necessary to remove the lava rocks forcleaning. They burn themselves clean duringthe next cooking operation. Periodically therocks need to be turned over for a thoroughcleaning. How often you use the grill and theamount and type of food cooked will determinewhen it is necessary to turn the lava rocks. If grease can be seen on the top of the rocksor if you get a lot of flare-ups during cooking, the rocks need to be turned over and heatedon HIGH for about 30 minutes, longer forheavy soil.Burnergrates(on some models)The range-top burner grates are porcelainenamel over cast iron for durability. To avoidburns do not clean a hot grate. They may bewiped while in place with hot, soapy water, rinsed and wiped dry. Never immerse a hotgrate in water.Due to rapid temperature changes theporcelain may pop off the edges of the grates.Do not be concerned as the base metal, castiron, soon darkens to blend with the porcelainenamel. Use care when wiping areas where theenamel has popped off. The edges may be sharp. If you remove the grates for cleaning, care should be taken inlifting them. They are very heavy. Place the grates on aprotected surface.
