21StainlesssteelDo not use a steel wool pad; it will scratch thestainless steel surface.Inside and outside stainless steel can becleaned easily and quickly with a stainless steelcleaner such as Revere Copper and StainlessSteel Cleaner®.For hard to clean soil, or film layers of grease, use a stainless steel cleaner such as Bon-Ami®.Apply cleaner with a damp sponge, rinsethoroughly and dry. Always scrub lightly inthe direction of the grain.Spider andinsectwarningSpiders and insects can nest in the burners ororifices of this or any outdoor gas appliance. The presence of spiders, spider webs or otherinsects can cause the gas to flow from thefront of the burner. This is a very dangerouscondition which can cause a fire to occurbehind the valve panel, damaging the cookingcenter and making it unsafe for use.You should inspect the burners at least once ayear or immediately if any of the followingconditions occur:1. The smell of gas in conjunction with theburner flames appearing yellow.2. The grill or range-top burners do not reachtemperature.3. The grill or range-top burners heat unevenly.4. The burners make popping noises. If blockage exists, clean the burners immediately.Replacinga rotaryigniterBefore replacing an igniter perform thissimple test.1. Remove the drip tray (on some models).2. From underneath the valve panel, lookupwards and locate the end of the igniterwire, where it is connected. Disconnect thewire and place the metal blade of ascrewdriver about 1/8″ from the terminalof the rotary igniter.3. Turn the igniter knob. If the igniter is good,a spark will jump across to the screwdriver. If there is no spark, replace the igniter. If there is a spark, examine the wire of theelectrode for cracks and cuts. Also examinethe electrode for grease and debris or see if theelectrode tip is bent. Is the tip sparking to thetop of the electrode bracket? The rotary igniter may be replaced from thefront by removing the drip pan (on somemodels) and reaching behind the valve panelto unplug the igniter wire. Remove the igniterknob and the two mounting screws. (Reversethe procedure to replace.) If removing thevalve panel is necessary begin by removing allthe control knobs, then remove the 4 cornerscrews of the valve panel.Burnergrates(on some models)The range-top burner grates are porcelainenamel over cast iron for durability. To avoidburns do not clean a hot grate. They may bewiped while in place with hot, soapy water, rinsed and wiped dry. Never immerse a hotgrate in water.Due to rapid temperature changes theporcelain may pop off the edges of the grates.Do not be concerned as the base metal, castiron, soon darkens to blend with the porcelainenamel. Use care when wiping areas where theenamel has popped off. The edges may be sharp. If you remove the grates for cleaning, care should be takenin lifting them. They are very heavy. Place the grates on aprotected surface.
