Theymight damage it.Clean the panels with a lightlydampened cloth. DO N(YT USEcleaning sprays or large amounts ofsoap and water. These can causeproblems with the controlmechanisms.Temperature ProbeThe probe is sturdy, but careshould be taken in handling it. Donot twist it. Avoid dropping it.Clean as soon as possible after use.Wipe it with a sudsy cloth, then rubmetal parts with a plastic scouringpad if necessary. Rinse and dry.(Or, wash the probe in an automaticdishwasher.)Al uminum Foil on Shelves—why you shouldn’t use itDO N(X place a sheet of aluminumfoil on any shelf in either yourmicrowave or conventional oven. Ifyou do, your foods may not cookproperly. The oven finish may bedamaged, and there may beanincrease in heat on the outsidesurfaces of the oven.Oven LampTo replace microwave oven lamp,first disconnect power at mainfuse or circuit breaker panel.Remove the Hood Extension andHood Filter following instructionson page 38.The lamp cover is located on thelower left side behind the hood falter.Use a short blade-type screwdriverand remove the screw in the frontof the lamp cover.Lift the lamp cover and gently twistthe bulb to break the white siliconeadhesive attached to the bulb andsocket to prevent damage duringshipping. Unscrew the bulb andreplace with a bulb of same typeand wattage available from your GEsupplier.Screw replacement bulb intosocket, replace screw in lampcover and re-install Hood Filterand Hood Extension. Re-connectpower to Cooking Center.—DOUBLE DUTTM—Shelf AccessoryYour shelf accessory is designedfor use in a microwave oven only;do not use in a conventional oven.Do not use a browning dish withthe shelf. Arcing could occur.Clean shelf with mild soap andwater or in the dishwasher. Do notclean in self-cleaning oven.Precautions for Use of MetalUse metal only as directed in thecookbook. Metal trays no morethan 3/4” deep may be used for TVdinners, and the metal temperatureprobe is designed for microwaveoven use. Always keep metal atleast one inch away from sidesof oven.Cleaning—OutsideClean the outside of your microwaveoven with soap and damp cloth,then rinse with damp cloth and dry.Wipe the window clean with adamp cloth. Chrome is best wipedwith a damp cloth and then with adry towel.Cleaning-InsideKeep your microwave oven cleanand sweet-smelling. Opening theoven door a few minutes afiercooking helps air out the interior.An occasional thorough wipingwith a solution of baking soda andwater keeps the interior fresh.Spills and spatters are easy toremove from walls and floor.That’s because there’s little heatexcept in the food, or sometimes inthe utensil. Some spatters wipe upwith a paper towel, some mayrequire a damp cloth. Removegreasy spatters with a sudsy cloth, —then rinse and dry.34
