Exhaust SystemThis Cooking Center has a built-inexhaust system equipped with adamper, a two-speed exhaustblower and removable filters.Exhaust openings are located overcooking top and in hood over oven.The exhaust system functions onlywhen the blower is operating. Theswitch for the exhaust system isbeneath the control panel. For highspeed, push switch once; for lowspeed, push switch twice; and tostop blower, push switch oncein sequence.When blower is operating and hoodover upper oven is closed, itexhausts over surface units only.When blower operates with hood inopen position, it exhausts throughopenings over surface units andover oven at the same time.THE EXHAUST SYSTEMSHOULD BE OPERATEDWHENEVER ODORS, VAPORSOR SMOKE ARE EXPECTEDTll BE THE RESULT OF ACOOKING OPERATION.START FAN AT BEGINNINGOF COOKING.To open hood above the oven, liftup handle on hood; to close, pushdown on handle. Use hood in itsfully extended position whenevervapor or smoke results fromcooking, such as when pan broilingor frying on the surface units. Seeinformation on use of surface units.FiltersTwo filters are located over cookingtop and one behind hood extension.Filters are removable for cleaning.Filters become soiled over a periodof time. The efficiency of yourexhaust system depends on howclean the filters are. Frequency ofcleaning, or replacing, depends onthe type of cooking you do, butfilters should be cleaned AT LEASTONCE A MONTH. Also, frequentlyclean the grease-laden surfacesadjacent to the filters.To clean, agitate in hot detergentsolution. Light brushing may beused to help remove imbedded soiland dust. With careful use andhandling, filters will last for years.However, if replacement becomesnecessary, obtain a filter fromyour dealer.Remove and Replace Filters1. Cooking top: Place finger inrecess at front edge of filter; pushfilter to rear until front edge clearsthe exhaust opening; lower thefront and remove. When clean,replace. Place edge of filter againstspring at rear of exhaust opening.Push to rear, lift front edge, and letspring push filter forward into placeunder edge of exhaust opening.2. Hood: Extend hood as far aspossible, or remove hood extensionif desired; see illustration below.Place fingers on each side atbottom of filter. Press filter to leftuntil it clears the holder on rightside, then remove. When clean,replace. Push filter against clip atleft and press left until filter clearsholder at right side. Push filtertoward opening and release so itslips behind holder.Non-vented models also have areplaceable Charcoal Filter locatedbehind Hood Filter. Replace as –needed with Part No. WB02X7692available from your GE supplier.MotorThe blower motor is permanentlylubricated; it does not need oiling.To Remove and Replace Hood Extension1.
