Smother aflaming pan on a surface unit by covering thepan completely with a well-fitting lid, cookie sheetor flat tray. Use a multi-purpose dry chemical orfoam-type fire extinguisher.Ŷ If there is a fire in the oven during baking,smother the fire by closing the oven door andturning the oven off or by using a multi-purposedry chemical or foam-type fire extinguisher.Ŷ If there is a fire in the oven during self-clean, turnthe oven off and wait for the fire to go out. Donot force the door open. Introduction of fresh airat self-clean temperatures may lead to a burstof flame from the oven. Failure to follow thisinstruction may result in severe burns.WARNING IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE, TAKE THE FOLLOWINGSTEPS TO PREVENT INJURY AND FIRE SPREADINGŶ Never leave the surface units unattended atmedium or high heat settings. Boilovers causesmoking and greasy spillovers that may catchon fire.Ŷ Never leave oil unattended while frying. If allowedto heat beyond its smoking point, oil may igniteresulting in fire that may spread to surroundingcabinets. Use a deep fat thermometer wheneverpossible to monitor oil temperature.Ŷ To avoid oil spillover and fire, use a minimumamount of oil when shallow pan-frying andavoid cooking frozen foods with excessiveamounts of ice.Ŷ Only certain types of glass, glass/ceramic,earthenware or other glazed containers aresuitable for cooktop service; others may breakbecause of the sudden change in temperature.Ŷ To minimize the possibility of burns, ignition offlammable materials and spillage, the handle of acontainer should be turned toward the center ofthe range without extending over nearby surfaceunits.Ŷ When preparing flaming foods under a hood, turnthe fan on.WARNING COOKTOP SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSŶ Do not store or use flammable materials inan oven or near the cooktop, including paper,plastic, pot holders, linens, wall coverings,curtains, drapes and gasoline or other flammablevapors and liquids.Ŷ Never wear loose-fitting or hanging garments whileusing the appliance. These garments may ignite ifthey contact hot surfaces causing severe burns.Ŷ Do not let cooking grease or other flammablematerials accumulate in or near the range.Grease in the oven or on the cooktop may ignite.Ŷ Clean ventilating hoods frequently.
