35Installation InstructionsCONNECTING THE REFRIGERATORTO THE HOUSE WATER LINEA cold water supply is required for automatic ice makeroperation. If there is not a cold water supply, you willneed to provide one. See Installing the Water Line section.NOTES:• Before making the connection to the refrigerator, besure the refrigerator power cord is not plugged into thewall outlet.• If your refrigerator does not have a water filter, werecommend installing one if your water supply hassand or particles that could clog the screen of therefrigerator’s water valve. Install it in the water linenear the refrigerator. If using GE SmartConnect™Refrigerator Tubing Kit, you will need an additional tube(WX08X10002) to connect the filter. Do not cut plastictube to install filter.• Before connecting the water line to the house, purgethe house line for at least 2 minutes.If you are using copper tubing, place a compression nutand ferrule (sleeve) onto the end of the tubing comingfrom the house cold water supply.If you are using the GE SmartConnect™ tubing, the nutsare already assembled to the tubing.If you are using copper tubing, insert the end of thetubing into the refrigerator connection, at the back of therefrigerator, as far as possible. While holding the tubing,tighten the fitting.If you are using GE SmartConnect™ tubing, insertthe molded end of the tubing into the refrigeratorconnection, at the back of the refrigerator, and tightenthe compression nut until it is hand tight. Then tightenone additional turn with a wrench. Over tightening maycause leaks.Fasten the tubing into the clamp provided to hold it inposition.
