15Activating the applianceStandbyThe appliance is in the standby mode when nofunction is set or the child lock is activated.The control panel's brightness is reduced in thestandby mode.Notes‒ There are various displays for the standby mode.The GAGGENAU logo and the time are set bydefault. Refer to the section entitled Factorysetting if you would like to change the display.‒ The display's brightness depends on the verticalviewing angle. You can adjust the display by wayof the "Brightness" setting in the factory settings.Activate applianceIn order to exit standby mode, you can either▯ Set the function selector,▯ Touch a control panel,▯ or open or close the door.Now you can set the desired function. Read theappropriate chapters to learn how to set functions.Notes‒ If "Standby display = off" is selected in the factorysetting, you must turn the function selector to exitthe standby mode.‒ The standby display appears again if you have notmade any settings for a long while after activation.‒ The cooking compartment lighting goes out aftera little while if the door is open.Operating the applianceOven interiorThe oven interior has four insertion levels. These arecounted from the bottom up.9 CAUTIONDo not place anything on the cookingcompartment floor. Do not cover it withaluminium foil. A build-up of heat could damagethe appliance or cause injury.9 CAUTIONDo not slide any accessories between the shelfpositions, or they may tip.Inserting accessoriesThe accessories feature a latching function. Thelatching function prevents tilting of accessories whenpulling them out. You must insert accessories in theoven interior correctly so that tilt protection will work.When inserting the rack, make sure▯ that the engaging lug (a) points downward▯ that the rack's safety clip is at the rear and top.DD
