Q.seriesGantner Instruments GmbH 173 Introduction3.3 System descriptionThe modules in the Q.bloxx series have been developed for indus-trial and experimental measurement and test engineering, in par-ticular for multi-channel measurements of electrical, mechanicaland thermal signals on engine and component test-rigs as well asfor monitoring processes and long-term supervision. The modulesA123, A124, A127 and A128 are specially designed for measure-ments at high voltages.Voltages of up to 1200 V may be present on the connec-tions of the modules A123, A124, A127 and A128.Before connecting or disconnecting cables make sure thatall sources of power are Locked Out.The individual modules can be combined to form one system asrequired. You can connect up to 32 or 64 modules to one of theTest Controllers Q.gate, Q.pac or Q.station 101 and then addressthem from a PC or PLC via a single interface. Alternatively, it isalso possible to address single modules directly via the serialinterface. On all modules the power supply, bus interface and the inputsand outputs are electrically isolated from one another. The usewith Q.gate and Q.pac is explained in this manual. Please use themanual provided specifically for this module when operating theTest Controller Q.station 101.3.3.1 Operating the modules via Q.gateYou can connect up to 16 modules to each of the two serial inter-faces (UARTs) of the Q.gate Test Controller (Fig. 3-1 and Fig. 3-2). For a direct connection on DIN mounting rails (DIN 35 mmrail according to DIN EN 60715) a special plug-on socket is alsoavailable: the Q.bloxx Extension Socket QES. This means that youcan plug all 32 modules onto a mounting rail directly adjacent toone another. The Q.bloxx Extension Socket QES is plugged incentrally between the other sockets; the power supply of the sec-ond group of up to 16 modules also takes place through theextension socket. You can communicate via Ethernet with the connected modulesfrom the Q.gate Test Controller. The maximum cable lengthbetween the measurement modules and the Q.gate depends onthe desired baud rate:
