Foursquares with the battery outlineindicates new batteries are installedin the unit.Installing BatteriesThe Foretrex 101 operates on two AAA alkaline batteries (not included), which areplaced in the back of the unit. Rechargeable alkaline, NiMH, NiCad, or lithium batteriesmay be used. Refer to section “Set System Page” for instructions on selecting battery type.Stored data will not be lost while batteries are being changed. However, if batteries arecompletely discharged and are not changed within a couple of days, it may take longer forthe unit to get a GPS signal fix.To install the batteries:1. Remove the battery cover by inserting a coin in the bottom slot. Twist the coin to liftthe cover up and pull away.2. Compare the battery polarity with the diagram in the battery compartment and installthe batteries accordingly.3. To re-install the battery cover, slide the top portion into the appropriate slot, then snapthe bottom section securely to the base of the unit.NOTE: When replacing batteries, use only new or fully charged batteries. Do notmix Alkaline and NiMH batteries. Rechargeable batteries may typically displayless capacity than disposable batteries. Extensive use of backlighting and keybeep tones will significantly reduce battery life. Remove the batteries from theunit if you do not plan to use it for several months. Storing batteries in the unitfor long periods may result in leakage and damage to the battery compartment.NOTE: Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper care and disposal of usedbatteries. Do not incinerate used batteries, as internal materials may ignite withexplosive violence.
