Garmin G1000 Cockpit Reference Guide for the Beechcraft A36/G36 1-9SECTION 1SYSTEM OVERVIEW1.6 DATABASE UPDATESAviation Database UpdateNOTE: The display downloads the aviationdatabase and stores it internally. The aviationdatabase SD card is not required to remain inthe display after the update.1) With the G1000 System OFF, insert the aviationdatabase update SD card into the top card slotof the PFD (Label of SD card facing left).2) Turn the G1000 System ON. This promptis displayed on the upper left corner of thePFD:Figure 1-9 Database Update Prompt3) Press the ENT Key to confirm the databaseupdated. This prompt is displayed:Figure 1-10 Database Update Confirmation4) After the update completes, the PFD starts innormal mode. Remove the aviation databaseupdate SD card from the PFD.5) Turn the G1000 System OFF.6) Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the MFD. TheMFD and PFD aviation databases are nowupdated.7) Verify that the correct update cycle is loadedduring startup of the MFD.Terrain and Obstacle Database UpdatesNOTE: The data contained in the terrain andobstacle databases comes from governmentagencies. Garmin accurately processes andcross-validates the data, but cannot guaranteethe accuracy and completeness of the data.NOTE: Obstacles 200’ and higher are included inthe obstacle database. It is very important to notethat not all obstacles are necessarily charted andtherefore may not be contained in the obstacledatabase.These databases are not stored internally in the MFDor PFD. Supplemental Data Cards containing identicaldatabase versions must be kept in both displays to retainterrain and obstacle data. A Supplemental Data Cardshould be inserted into the bottom card slot of the PFDand MFD.NOTE: If the Supplemental Data Card isremoved from the display, the TOPO and TER-RAIN softkeys are not functional and are grayedout on the MFD Map Page.1) Insert one card in the bottom card slot of theMFD and one in the bottom card slot of thePFD.2) Apply power to the G1000 System. View theMFD power-up splash screen. Check that theTerrain and Obstacle databases are initializedand displayed on the scrolling window of thesplash screen.
