The pilot loads the Runway 29R ILS approachfor KFAT into the Flight Plan. The Pilot selects‘Vectors to Final’ for the transition. The pilot uses the Heading Select Mode tocomply with ATC vectors, as requested.3. In preparation for the approach and at thepilot’s discretion, the pilot tunes the localizerfrequency, then selects the LOC mode on theHSI.4. When cleared for the approach, the pilot armsthe Approach Mode by pressing the APR key.LOC and GS appear in the roll and pitch armedfield, respectively. The Autopilot and FlightDirector determine when to begin the turn tointercept the final approach course.5. From this point, the Autopilot flies the ILS. Atthe Decision Height, the pilot can push theAP DISC switch and land the aircraft, or pushthe GA switch to execute a missed approach.
