Garmin G1000 Cockpit Reference Guide for Cessna Nav III 19SECTION 2 – PFD2.6 FLIGHT INSTRUMENTSThe Flight Instruments include airspeed, attitude, alti-tude, vertical speed, and heading in a standard aircraft “T”arrangement. This primary display information is com-plemented with other communication, navigation, flightcontrol, annunciation and planning information.Airspeed IndicatorThe Airspeed Indicator displays airspeed on a rollingnumber gauge using a moving tape. The following ad-ditional information is also displayed:• Speed indication• Speed ranges• Airspeed Trend Vector• Vspeed referencesActual AirspeedAirspeed TrendVectorTrue AirspeedBoxSpeed RangesVspeedReferencesFigure 2-5 Airspeed IndicatorSpeed IndicationThe numeric labels and major tick marks on the mov-ing tape are marked at intervals of 10 knots, while minortick marks on the moving tape are indicated at intervalsof 5 knots.Speed indication starts at 20 knots, with 60 knots ofairspeed viewable at one time. The indicated airspeed isdisplayed inside the black pointer. The pointer remainsblack until reaching never exceed speed (Vne) at which itturns red.Figure 2-6 Red Pointer at VneSpeed RangesA color-coded (white, green, yellow, and red) speedrange strip is located on the moving tape. The colors de-note flaps operating range, normal operating range, andnever exceed speed (Vne). A red range is also present forlow speed awareness. Refer to the Aircraft Flight Manual(AFM) for airspeed limitations and indicator markings.Airspeed Trend VectorThis vertical, magenta line extends up or down on theairspeed scale located right of the color-coded speed rangestrip. The end of the trend vector displays approximatelywhat the airspeed will be in 6 seconds if the current rateof acceleration is maintained. The trend vector is absent ifthe speed remains constant or if any data needed to calcu-late airspeed is not available due to a system failure.Vspeed ReferencesVspeeds are set using the TMR/REF softkey. Glide, Vr,Vx and Vy are shown on the References window. Whenactive (ON), the Vspeeds are displayed at their respectivelocations to the right of the airspeed scale. Refer to theCessna Aircraft Flight Manual for the Vspeed values andthe Auxiliary Windows section in the PFD Pilot’s Guidefor information on setting and displaying Vspeeds.
