The winds at a given altitudeare selected in the Winds Aloft Alt below theWINDS selection. The selected altitude isshown along with the product time.• Textual Meteorological Aerodrome Reports(METARs). When you zoom in to show theairport symbol associated with the colored flagfor a graphical METAR, and move the MapPointer to highlight that airport, you can thenpress ENT to see the Textual METAR page forthat airport. The Textual METAR page is one ofthe airport pages of the WPT page group.• Graphical Meteorological AerodromeReports (METARs). The XM Weather page (inthe NAV page group) can show colored flagsto indicate the level of current weather condi-tions at those airports for which textual METARreports are available. The flags are color-codedto indicate the severity of the current weather atthe airport: cyan for VFR conditions, green forMarginal VFR conditions, yellow for IFR condi-tions, or magenta of Low IFR conditions.• Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAFs). ATAF page is added among the airport pages ofthe WPT page group. The TAF page differs fromthe Textual METAR page in that it describesforecast future weather conditions rather thancurrent conditions.• Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs). Theboundaries of areas with TFRs are outlined inyellow on the Map and XM Weather pages ofthe NAV page group. In the 500W-series, TFRboundaries are also shown on the NAV mainpage. You can obtain more information about aTFR by bringing up the map cursor, moving themap cursor to within the yellow outlined area,and pressing the ENT key.Weather Product AgeThe age of the displayed weather product—or theeffective time of Winds Aloft predictions—is shownin the upper right corner of the display. For example,if NEXRAD is displayed, “0:05” indicates that the dataare five minutes old. If Winds Aloft predictions arebeing displayed, “10:00” indicates the effective timefor the displayed prediction is 10:00 AM.The data for each XM Weather product are updatedregularly from the GDL 69/69A. Inthe unlikely event that the data should expire beforea fresh update is received, the time will be dashed outand the data removed from the display.XM NEXRAD WeatherThe National Weather Service’s network of WSR-88D Doppler weather surveillance radars—also calledNEXRAD, for Next Generation Radar—has greatlyimproved the detection of meteorological events suchas thunderstorms, tornados, and hurricanes.
