35Part Three: Section 2TAWS OperationTAWS SymbolsThe symbols and colors in the following figure andtable are used to represent obstacles and potential impactpoints on the TAWS Page. TAWS uses yellow and redto depict terrain information relative to aircraft altitude. Each color is associated with an alert severity level. Ter-rain graphics and visual annunciations also use thesecolor assignments. The zoom range of obstacles (on the TAWS andNAV pages) is controlled by the NAV map’s “SetupMap” menu option in the “Terrain” group under the“Obstacles” option. Obstacles can be shown up to themaximum zoom range on the TAWS page. However, obstacles are ALWAYS shown on the TAWS page at10 NM and below. Gray/White obstacles are shown onthe Nav Map pages, but not on the TAWS page.NOTE: If an obstacle and the projected flight pathof the aircraft intersect, the display automaticallyzooms in to the closest potential point of impacton the TAWS Page.Unlighted Obstacle Lighted ObstacleColor Obstacle LocationObstacle Symbol< 1000 ftAGL> 1000 ftAGL< 1000 ftAGL> 1000 ftAGLRed Obstacle at or within 100 ft below current aircraft altitudeYellow Obstacle between 100 ft and 1000 ft below current aircraftaltitudeWhite Obstacle is 1000 ft below current aircraft altitudeTAWS Obstacle Colors and SymbologyPotential Impact PointUnlighted ObstacleProjected Flight Path1000 ft100 ft ThresholdTerrain more than 1000 ft below the aircraft altitude (Black)Terrain between 100 ft and 1000 ft below theaircraft altitude (Yellow)Terrain above orwithin 100 ftbelow the aircraftaltitude (Red)TAWS Terrain Colors190-00356-30 Rev H
