To maximize the lifetimeof the battery, do not leave the aera in direct sunlight, and avoid prolonged exposureto excessive heat.The battery icon in the top right of the ‘Home’ screen indicates the statusof the aera battery. To increase the accuracy of the battery gauge, fully discharge thebattery and fully charge it. Do not unplug the aera until it is fully charged.MAXIMIZING THE BATTERY LIFE• Turn down the backlight (refer to the 'System Settings' chapter of this section).• Unplug the XM antenna (if applicable).• Do not leave the unit in direct sunlight, in a cool (not freezing) place. Whenstoring the unit, store within the following temperature range: -32° to 122°F (-0°to 50°C).• Do not operate the unit outside of the following temperature range: -4° to 140°F(-20° to 60°C).• Avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat.REPLACING THE BATTERY IN THE AERATo replace the battery, use a Garmin lithium-ion battery 010-11143-00. Purchasea replacement battery at http://buy.garmin.com. Contact you local waste disposaldepartment for information about properly disposing of the battery.CHANGING THE FUSEIf the unit does not charge, the fuse may need to be replaced.1) Unscrew the round end piece, and remove it.2) Remove the fuse (glass and silver cylinder), and replace with a 3A fast-blowfuse.3) Ensure that the silver tip is placed in the end piece. Screw on the end piece.
