57Appendix ESymptom Probable Cause RemedyTo resolve problems that cannot be remedied usingthis guide, contact GARMIN Customer Service at:913-397-8200 or 800-800-1020Unit does not turn on.Unit does not turn ON,even with new batteries.The unit turns On, then turnsOff.It takes more than ten minutesto get a location fix.Cannot access a WAAS systemsatellite after 2 to 5 minutes.Cannot obtain a differentialposition from WAAS.Cannot access Point of Interest,Street, or Intersection FindLists.Cannot view a track being laiddown on the map page whentraveling.Cannot see the panning arrowon the Map Page easily.Cannot exit a menu or pageby moving the CLICK STICK tothe left.Batteries are exhausted.Batteries may be installed backwards.You are pressing and releasing thePOWER button.Batteries may be nearly exhausted.The unit’s view of satellites isobstructed.Your view of the satellite is obstructedor you are located too far from satellitescurrently in service for the Americas.System GPS operation is set to some-thing other ‘Normal’ and/or interfacesetting is for RTCM.You have not collected enough infor-mation from the WAAS satellite.MetroGuide map data is not activated.The Track Log feature is turned Off.There is too much map clutter or thescale is such that map features are toodensely displayed.Some menus and pages have an ‘X’(Exit) on-screen button in the upperright corner.Replace batteries.Reinstall batteries.You must press and hold thePOWER button for two seconds.Replace batteries.Move to a location with a clear viewof the sky.Move to a location with a clear viewand point the unit antenna in thedirection of the satellite.Set system GPS to ‘Normal’ andinterface to other than RTCM.Wait 10-20 minutes for the initial col-lection, then 1-2 minutes afterwards.Access the Map Setup ‘Map’ optionand activate the check box.Access the Tracks Page, highlightthe ‘ON’ button and press in on theCLICK STICK.Use the Map Page Setup Page toreduce map clutter or change themap scale.Highlight the on-screen button andthen press in on the CLICK STICK.The eTrex Legend is programmed to provide “pop-up” messages concerning operational characteristics andconditions.
