July 2019 Service and Repair ManualPrimary Boom ComponentsPart No. 1286829GT S-40 XC • S-45 XC • S-40 TraX • S-45 TraX 45How to R epair the C abl e Tr ackHow to Repair the Cable TrackComponent damage hazard.The boom cable track can bedamaged if it is twisted.Note: A cable track repair kit is available throughthe Genie Service Parts Department.1 Visually inspect the cable track and determinewhich 4-link section needs to be replaced.2 Carefully remove the snap rings and pins fromeach end of the damaged section of cabletrack.3 Remove the retaining fasteners from theupper black rollers from the 4-link section ofcable track to be replaced. Remove the rollers.4 Lift up the hoses and cables and carefullyremove the damaged 4-link section of cabletrack.Component damage hazard.Hoses and cables can bedamaged if they are kinked orpinched.5 Remove the upper rollers from thereplacement section of cable track.6 Lift up the hoses and cables and carefullyinsert the new 4-link section of cable track.Component damage hazard.Hoses and cables can bedamaged if they are kinked orpinched.7 Connect the ends of the replacement cabletrack section to the existing cable track usingthe pins and snap rings.8 Install the rollers onto the new section of cabletrack.9 Operate the boom extend/retract functionthrough a full cycle to ensure smoothoperation of the new section of cable track.4-2Primary BoomHow to Remove the PrimaryBoomBodily injury hazard. Thisprocedure requires specific repairskills, lifting equipment and asuitable workshop. Attemptingthis procedure without these skillsand tools could result in death orserious injury and significantcomponent damage. Dealerservice is strongly recommended.Note: When removing a hose assembly or fitting,the O-ring (if equipped) on the fitting and/or hoseend must be replaced. All connections must betorqued to specification during installation. Refer toSpecifications, Hydraulic Hose and Fitting TorqueSpecifications.1 Remove the jib boom, if equipped. Refer toRepair Procedure, How to Remove the JibBoom.2 Remove the cable track. Refer to RepairProcedure, How to Remove the Cable Track.3 Raise the primary boom to the horizontalposition.4 Attach lifting straps from a 5 ton / 5000 kgoverhead crane to the center point of theboom. Support the boom. Do not apply liftingpressure.5 Remove the turntable end cover.
