Command Manual – MSTPH3C S3100-52P Ethernet Switches Chapter 1 MSTP Configuration Commands1-32DescriptionUse the stp max-hops command to set the maximum hops for the MST region thecurrent switch belongs to.Use the undo stp max-hops command to restore the maximum hops to the defaultvalue. The maximum hops configured on the region roots of the CIST and MSTIs in an MSTregion limit the size of the MST region.A configuration BPDU contains a field that maintains the remaining hops of theconfiguration BPDU. And a switch discards the configuration BPDUs whose remaininghops are 0. After a configuration BPDU reaches a root bridge of a spanning tree in aMST region, the value of the remaining hops field in the configuration BPDU isdecreased by 1 every time the configuration BPDU passes one switch. Such amechanism disables the switches that are beyond the maximum hops fromparticipating in spanning tree calculation, and thus limits the size of an MST region. With such a mechanism, the maximum hops configured on the switch operating as theroot bridge of the CIST or an MSTI in a MST region becomes the network diameter ofthe spanning tree, which limits the size of the spanning tree in the current MST region. The switches that are not root bridges in the MST region adopt the maximum hopsettings of their root bridges.Example# Set the maximum hops of the current MST region to 35. system-viewSystem View: return to User View with Ctrl+Z.[H3C] stp max-hops 351.1.30 stp mcheckSyntaxstp mcheckViewSystem view, Ethernet port viewParameterNoneDescriptionUse the stp mcheck command to perform the mCheck operation on the current port.
