203Port mirroring implementationThe local port mirroring has the following characteristics:• The mirroring sources and the mirroring destination are on the same device.• The source device is directly connected to a data monitoring device.• The source device acts as the destination device to forward mirrored packets to the data monitoringdevice.A local mirroring group is a mirroring group that contains the mirroring sources and the mirroringdestination on the same device. The mirroring sources and the mirroring destination can be located ondifferent modules of the device. As shown in Figure 62, the source port GigabitEthernet 2/0/1 and the monitor port GigabitEthernet2/0/2 reside on the same device. Packets received on GigabitEthernet 2/0/1 are copied toGigabitEthernet 2/0/2. GigabitEthernet 2/0/2 then forwards the packets to the data monitoring devicefor analysis.Figure 62 Local port mirroring implementationConfiguring local port mirroringA local mirroring group takes effect only when the source ports and the monitor port are configured forthe local mirroring group.Local port mirroring configuration task listTasks at a glance1.
