OperationTo some ears the impact of the wrap cir-cuit may seem subtle, and this is normal.Remember that how audible the wrapeffect will be varies with the acoustics ofyour listening room, the output settingsestablished during the calibration process,the system volume and the type of pro-gram material in use.Note that the Wrap circuit is not in usewhen the Wrap Indicator ˜ displaysthe two lights connected by the REFbar along with the center, front andmiddle LED.When the Wrap buttons ˆo arepressed when the AVR40 is in the Hallmode, the circuits are adjusting a con-trolled amount of level into the rearchannels. The amount of this changewill be indicated in the InformationDisplay. Note that the range of controlfor the Wrap circuit in the Hall modewill vary depending on other systemsettings, and you may find that thesetting cannot be adjusted below a“+4dB” indication.Tuner OperationThe AVR40’s tuner is capable of tuningAM, FM and FM Stereo broadcast sta-tions. Stations may be tuned manually,or they may be stored as favorite stationpresets and recalled from a 30 positionmemory.Station Selection1. Press the AM/FM button 6d toselect the tuner as an input.2. Press the AM/FM button 6d againto switch between AM and FM so that thedesired frequency band is selected.3. Press the Tuning Mode button ¸ toselect manual or automatic tuning.When the AUTO indicator is illuminatedin the main information display thetuner will only stop at those stations thathave a strong enough signal to bereceived with acceptable quality.If the AUTO indicator is NOT illumin-ated, the tuner is in a manual mode andwill stop at each frequency increment inthe selected band.4. To select stations from the front panelpress the Tuning button Ú. WhenAUTO indicator is illuminated each presswill cause the tuner to search for the nexthighest or lowest frequency station thathas an acceptable signal. When tuningFM stations in the auto mode, the tunerwill only select Stereo stations. To tune tothe next station, press the button again.If the AUTO indicator is NOT illuminat-ed, tap the Tuning button Ú to advanceone frequency increment at a time, orpress and hold it to locate a specific sta-tion. When the TUNED indicator illumi-nates the station is properly tuned andshould be heard with clarity. To listen tothe station in stereo, press the TuningMode button ¸ until the red STEREOindicator illuminates in the front paneldisplay.5. To select stations using the remote,press the Manual Tune ››/‹‹ buttonsh to select stations one at a time. Afteran FM station is selected, the TuningMode button must be pressed to receivethe station in stereo, when available.Alternatively, the Automatic Tune›› /‹‹ buttons i may be used toscan only those stations with sufficientstrength for proper reception. Each pressof these buttons will advance the tuner tothe next station.
