Storing a stationin a memory location that hasalready been used will overwrite theexisting data.Ô Numeric Buttons: Use thesebuttons to enter or recall stationsfrom the tuner memory. Surround Mode: Press this but-ton to select the desired surroundlistening mode.Ò Center Boost: Press this buttonto increase the level of the centerchannel output ±4 dB above that ofthe left/right channels for increaseddialog intelligibility. A red LED willilluminate above the button when thecircuit is engaged.Ú Tuning Button: Press the left sideof the button to tune lower frequencystations and the right side of the but-ton to tune higher frequency stations.When a station with astrong frequency is tuned, theTUNED indicator will illuminate inthe Information Display.Û Contour: Press this button whenlistening at low levels to activatespecial circuits that compensate forthe response of the human ear atlower volumes. In the off position theunit will provide flat frequencyresponse.Ù Volume Control: Rotate thiscontrol to raise or lower the volume.Note that this is a motorized control,and when the volume is changedusing the remote control l it willmove in response to remotecommands.ı Mute/Volume Indicator: In nor-mal operation this green LED pro-vides a relative indication of theunit’s volume level. When the AVR40is in the MUTE mode, this indicatorflashes to remind you that output tothe speakers has momentarily beensilenced.ˆ Wrap: When the Dolby Pro Logicor Hall modes are in use, pressthese buttons to increase ordecrease the amount of effect forthe Wrap circuit.˜ Wrap Indicator: These LEDsindicate the degree of Wrap thathas been selected.¯ Information Display: Theindicators in this display illuminateto provide visual display of the unit’soperation.˘ Video 3 → Video 1 Dubbing:Press this button to make a recordingfrom the device connected to thefront panel Video 3 input % to theunit connected to Video 1 9. In the STEREO mode aSTEREO indicator will illuminate inthe information display, and stereoreception will be provided when sta-tions are transmitting stereo signals.In the MONO mode the left and rightsignals from stereo broadcasts willbe mixed together and reproducedthrough all channels. Select MONOfor better reception of weak signals.This button is also used to selectAUTO or MANUAL tuning.
