Next, press ‹/› buttonsj to choose between the followingsettings.OFF: When OFF is in the highlighted video,the Night mode will not function.MID: When MID is in the highlighted video, amild compression will be applied.MAX: When MAX is in the highlighted video,a more severe compression algorithm will beapplied.We recommend that you select the MID settingas a starting point and change to the MAXsetting later, if desired.Note that the Night mode may be adjusteddirectly any time that a Dolby Digital source isplaying by pressing the Night button z.When the button is pressed, the wordsD-RANGE will appear in the lower third ofthe video screen and in the Main InformationDisplay W. Press the ⁄/¤ button g withinthree seconds to select the desired setting.When all settings for the surround setup havebeen made, press the ⁄/¤ buttons g so thatthe › cursor is next to RETURN TOMENU, and press the Set button i toreturn to the main menu.Speaker SetupThe first few adjustments tell the AVR 7000which type of speakers are in use. This isimportant as it adjusts the settings that deter-mine which speakers receive low frequency(bass) information. For each of these settingsuse the LARGE setting if the speakers for aparticular position are traditional full-rangeloudspeakers that are capable of reproducingsounds below 100Hz. Use the SMALL set-ting for smaller, frequency-limited satellitespeakers that do not reproduce sounds below100Hz. Note that when “small” speakers areused, a subwoofer is required to reproduce lowfrequency sounds. Remember that the “large”and “small” descriptions do not refer to theactual physical size of the speakers, but to theirability to reproduce low frequency sounds.If you are in doubt as to which categorydescribes your speakers, consult the specifica-tions in the speakers’ owner’s manual, or askyour dealer.To enter the proper settings for the speakersetup, the easiest path is through theSPEAKER SETUP menu (Figure 5). Ifthat menu is not already on your screen fromthe prior adjustments, press the OSD buttons to bring up the AUDIO SET UP menu(Figure 1), and then press the ¤ button gtwice so that the cursor is on the SPEAKERSETUP line. At this point, press the Set but-ton i to bring up the SPEAKERSETUP menu (Figure 5).Figure 5When the SPEAKER SETUP menu firstappears, the on-screen cursor › will be at thetop of the list of speaker positions, pointingtoward the LEFT/RIGHT line, which setsthe configuration for the two front speakers. Ifyou wish to make a change to the front speak-ers, press the ⁄/¤ buttons g so that eitherLARGE or SMALL appears, matching theappropriate description from the definitionsshown above.When SMALL is selected, low frequencysounds will be sent only to the subwoofer out-put. Note that if you choose this option andthere is no subwoofer connected, you will nothear any low frequency sounds from the frontchannels.When LARGE is selected, a full-range outputwill be sent to the front left and front right out-puts, and NO low frequency signals will be sentto the subwoofer output.When you have completed your selection for thefront channel, press the ¤ button g on theremote to move the cursor to CENTER.Press the ‹/› buttons j on the remoteto select the option that best describes yoursystem based on the speaker definitions shownon this page.When SMALL is selected, low frequencycenter channel sounds will be sent only to thesubwoofer output. Note that if you choose thisoption and there is no subwoofer connected, youwill not hear any low frequency sounds from thecenter channel speaker.When LARGE is selected, a full-range outputwill be sent to the center speaker output, andNO center channel signal will be sent to thesubwoofer output.When NONE is selected, no signals will besent to the center channel output. The receiverwill operate in a “phantom” center channelmode and center channel information willbe sent to the left and right front channeloutputs.When you have completed your selection forthe center channel, press the ¤ button gon the remote to change the cursor toSURROUND.Press the ‹/› buttons j on the remoteto select the option that best describes the sur-round speakers in your system based on thespeaker definitions shown on this page.When SMALL is selected, low frequencysurround channel sounds will be sent to thesubwoofer output only. Note that if youchoose this option and there is no subwooferconnected, you will not hear any low frequencysounds from the surround speakers.When LARGE is selected, a full-range outputwill be sent to the surround channel outputs,and NO surround channel signals will be sentto the subwoofer output.When NONE is selected, surround soundinformation will be split between the front-leftand front-right outputs. Note that for optimalperformance when no surround speakers are inuse, the Dolby 3 Stereo mode should be usedinstead of Dolby Pro Logic.
