33 MULTIROOM OPERATIONMultiroom OperationThe AVR 7000 is fully equipped to operateas the control center for a sophisticatedaudio/video multiroom system with optionalremote external Infrared (IR) sensors, speakersand power amplifiers. Although some multi-room installations will require the services of aspecially trained installer, it is possible for theaverage do-it-yourself hobbyist to install asimple remote room system.InstallationThe key to remote room operation is to link theremote room to the AVR 7000’s location withwire for an infrared receiver and speakers or anamplifier. For complete installation instructionsfor Multiroom use, see page 16.Multiroom SetupOnce the audio and IR link connections havebeen made, the AVR 7000 needs to be config-ured for multiroom operation using the stepsbelow. Press the OSD button s to bring theMAIN AUDIO SETUP menu (Figure 1)to the screen. Press the ¤ button g fivetimes, until the on-screen › cursor is next tothe MULTI-ROOM line. Press the Set but-ton i to enter the MULTI-ROOMSETUP menu (Figure 9).Figure 9When the MULTI-ROOM SETUP menuappears, the on-screen › cursor will be at theMULTI-ROOM line. Since this line is usedto turn the system on and off, do not make anadjustment here unless you wish to turn thesystem on at this time. To turn the system on,press the › button j so that ON ishighlighted. If you do not wish to turn the sys-tem on at this time or to proceed to the nextstep, press the ⁄ Button g once so that the› on-screen cursor is next to the MULTI INline.At the MULTI IN line, press the ‹/› but-tons j until the desired input to themulti-room system appears in the highlightedvideo. When the selection has been made, pressthe ¤ button g once so that the › on-screen cursor is next to the MULTI VOLline.At the MULTI VOL line, press the ‹/› but-tons j until the desired volume level forthe multi-room system is entered. DO NOT usethe regular volume control knobs for this set-ting. When all settings for the multiroom setuphave been made, press the ⁄/¤ buttons guntil the on-screen › cursor is next to theRETURN TO MAIN MENU line. If youhave no other adjustments to make, press theOSD button s to exit the menu system.Multiroom OperationTo activate the feed to the remote room, pressthe Multiroom button ` on the remote.Next, press the Set button i. Press the⁄ / ¤ buttons g to turn the multiroom feedon or off. When the multiroom system is on, theMulti indicator O will light in theInformation Display Ò , and the MainInformation Display W or OSD will displayMULTI ON. Press the Set button i toenter the setting.When the multiroom system is turned on, thepreviously selected input will be fed to theMultiroom Output jacks d on the rear panel.The volume will be as set in the previous selec-tion, although it may also be adjusted using anoptional IR sensor and the Zone II remote in theremote location or on the optional audio poweramplifier connected to the Multiroom Outputjacks d.If an optional IR sensor is located in the remoteroom and connected to the AVR 7000’sMultiroom IR Input jack b, the multiroomsystem may be turned on or controlled by simplypointing the Zone II remote, or an optional pro-grammable remote that includes codes for theAVR 7000, at the IR sensor. Note that depend-ing on the type of programmable remote used,the code for the AVR’s Multiroom IR Inputbutton b may not be contained in thepreprogrammed code library, and must be“learned” into the remote, if possible.Once the multiroom system is turned on, any ofthe AVR 7000’s functions including input selec-tion, volume, mute and tuner preset selection ortuning, may be operated by using the Zone IIremote and an optional remote IR sensor con-nected to the Multiroom IR Input jack b. Inaddition, the Zone II remote may also be usedto control compatible Harman Kardon CD, cas-sette and DVD players using the remote’s trans-port controls ∂Ƀ.Once the multiroom system is turned on, it willremain on even if the AVR 7000 is placed inthe Standby mode in the main room by press-ing the Power Off Button d or the SystemPower Control 2 on the front panel. To turnoff the multiroom sysytem, even when the AVRis in Standby mode in the main listening room,press the Multiroom button ` and thenthe Set button i. Press the ⁄ / ¤ buttonsg so that the Multi indicator O in theInformation Display Ò goes out, and theMain Information Display W or OSD willdisplay MULTI OFF.
