Programmed Device FunctionsOnce the AVR 7000’s remote has been pro-grammed for the codes of other devices, pressthe appropriate Input or Video Selector cto change the remote from controlling theAVR 7000 to controlling the additional product. When you press any one of the selectors, it willbriefly flash in red to indicate that you havechanged the device being controlled. When operating a device other than theAVR 7000, the controls may not correspondexactly to the function printed on the remoteor button. Some commands, such as the volumecontrol, are the same as they are with theAVR 7000. Other buttons will change theirfunction so that they correspond to a secondarylabel on the remote. For example, the Sleepand Surround mode selector buttons also func-tion as the Channel Up and Channel Downbuttons when operating most TV sets, VCRs orcable boxes. The Channel Up/Down indication isprinted directly on the remote. The same is truefor standard CD players, cassette decks, VCRsand DVD functions, which follow the standardfunction icons printed on top of the buttons. For some products, however, the function of aparticular button does not follow the commandprinted on the remote. In order to see whichfunction a button controls, consult the FunctionList tables printed on page 38. To use thosetables, first check the type of device being con-trolled (e.g., TV, VCR). Next, look at the remotecontrol diagram pictured at the left. Note thateach button has a number on it.To find out what function a particular buttonhas for a specific device, find the button numberon the Function List and then look in the col-umn for the device you are controlling. Forexample, button number 9 is the Test Tone but-ton for the AVR 7000, but it is the “Favorite”button for many cable television boxes andsatellite receivers. Button number 35 is thePreset Tune Down button for the AVR 7000, theReverse Skip button for CD players and thePage Down button for some VCRs.Note that the numbers used to describe the but-ton functions at the left for the purposes ofdescribing how a button operates are a differentset of numbers than those used in the rest ofthis manual to describe the button functions forthe AVR.Notes on Using the AVR 7000 RemoteWith Other Devices.• Manufacturers may use different code sets forthe same product category. For that reason, itis important that you check to see if the codeset you have entered operates as many con-trols as possible. If it appears that only a fewfunctions operate, check to see if anothercode set will work with more buttons.• When a button is pressed on the AVR 7000remote, the red light under the Input orVideo Selector c for the productbeing operated should flash briefly. If theDevice Control Selector flashes for some butnot all buttons for a particular product, itdoes NOT indicate a problem with the remotebut rather that no function is programmedfor the button being pushed.Volume Punch-ThroughThe AVR 7000’s remote may be programmed tooperate the Volume Control from eitherthe TV or the AVR in conjunction with any of theeight devices controlled by the remote. Forexample, since the AVR 7000 will likely be usedas the sound system for TV viewing, you maywish to have the AVR’s volume activatedalthough the remote is set to run the TV.Either the AVR or TV volume control may beassociated with any of the remote’s devices. Toprogram the remote for Volume Punch-Through,follow these steps:1. Press the Input or Video Selector cfor the unit you wish to have associated withthe volume control and the Mute button fat the same time until the red light illuminatesunder the Device Selector.2.
