20INSTALLATIONStep Five – Connect the DMC 1000 to aMultizone System (Optional)The DMC 1000 may be used with up to four zones simultaneously, with any or all zones linked to each other. Zones 2, 3 and 4 are used todistribute 2-channel audio to other locations. Zone 1 is the main listeningarea. The system may be controlled remotely using the Remote IR Input, the RS-232 Port or a network connection.Connect the Analog Audio Outputs for each zone in the system to a receiver, processor, multizone controller or amplifier. See Figure 4 on page 19.Connect the RS-232 Port to a compatible control device using a standardnull modem cable or adapter. See Figure 9.Figure 9 – RS-232 PortStep Six – Connect the Remote IR Inputand OutputConnect the DMC 1000’s Remote IR Input to the compatible IR outputof another product, or to an IR receiver or controller, such as the optionalHarman Kardon HE 1000. When daisychaining devices to allow for remotecontrol up and down the chain, connect the Remote IR Output to the nextproduct’s IR input. See Figure 10. The DMC 1000 is compatible with“stripped carrier” IR signals.Figure 10 – Remote IR Input and OutputStep Seven – Network ConnectionConnect the Network Jack to a router or Ethernet-compatible controller.See Figure 11. The network connection is used by Gracenote MusicIDto obtain cover art and database updates via the Internet. When theNetwork connection is not used, Gracenote MusicID obtains the tags froma database stored internally on the DMC 1000’s hard-disc drive. To usethe DMC 1000 as a server on a home network, use the Setup menu tolook up the settings automatically generated when the DMC 1000 isbooted, and program your home network devices accordingly.Figure 11 – Network JackStep Eight – Plug In AC PowerTo avoid possible damage from a transient power surge at plug-in, switchthe Master Power Switch to the circle position (0). Plug the female endof the AC Power cord into the receptacle (see Figure 12), and the maleend into an unswitched AC outlet. Due to the DMC 1000’s power require-ments, do not plug it into an accessory outlet on another component.Figure 12 – Master Power Switch and AC Power InputStep Nine – Insert Batteries in RemoteThe DMC 1000 remote control uses two AA batteries (included). To remove the battery cover located on the back of the remote, gentlylift the tab in the direction of the arrow until the latch releases, and liftthe battery cover up. To replace the cover, carefully insert the two smalltabs at the top of the cover into the recesses at the top of the batterycompartment, and lower the cover, gently pressing the latch at thebottom until it snaps shut.Insert the batteries as shown in Figure 13, making sure to observethe correct polarity.Figure 13 – Remote Battery CompartmentWhen using the remote, remember to point the lens toward the frontpanel of the DMC 1000. The IR receiver is located immediately to theleft of the Message Display. Make sure no objects, such as furniture, areblocking the remote’s path. Bright lights, fluorescent lights and plasmavideo displays may interfere with the remote’s functioning. The remotehas a range of about 20 feet, depending on the lighting conditions. It may be used at an angle of up to 30 degrees to either side of theDMC 1000.If the remote seems to operate intermittently, make sure the batterieshave been inserted correctly, or replace both batteries with fresh ones.
