2Safety InformationImportant Safety InformationVerify Line Voltage Before UseYour new Harman Kardon PA5800amplifier has been factory-configured foruse with 120-volt AC line current.Connecting the amplifier to a line volt-age other than that for which it isintended can create a safety and fire haz-ard, and may damage the amplifier. If you have any questions about the volt-age requirements for your specific model,or about the line voltage in your area, contact your selling dealer before plug-ging the unit into a wall outlet.Verify AC Circuit Capacity Before UseHigh power output of your amplifier mayrequire heavy current draw under fullload conditions. To ensure proper perfor-mance and avoid potential safety haz-ards, we recommend that it be connectedto a circuit with 20-amp capacity.Connecting multiple amplifiers to thesame circuit, or connecting the amplifierto a circuit used by other heavy-powerdevices, such as high-wattage lights, maycause circuit breakers to trip. It is alwaysa good idea to avoid using any audioequipment on the same AC circuit asequipment with motors, such as air con-ditioners or refrigerators. This will lessenthe possibility of power variation andelectrical start-up noise affecting yoursound system.Do Not Use Extension CordsTo avoid safety hazards, use only thepower cord supplied with your unit. If areplacement cord is used, make certainthat it is of a similar gauge. We do notrecommend using extension cords withthis product. As with all electrical devices,do not run power cords under rugs orcarpets or place heavy objects on powercords. Damaged power cords should bereplaced immediately with cords meetingfactory specifications.Handle the AC Power Cord GentlyWhen disconnecting the power cord froman AC outlet, always pull the plug, neverpull the cord. If you do not intend to usethe amplifier for a considerable length oftime, disconnect the plug from the ACoutlet.Do Not Open the CabinetThere are no user-serviceable compo-nents inside this product. Opening thecabinet may present a shock hazard, andany modification to the product will voidyour guarantee. If water enters the unit,or any metal object such as a paper clip, wire or staple accidentally falls inside thecabinet, disconnect the unit from the ACpower source immediately and consultan authorized warranty station.Installation Locationn To ensure proper operation and toavoid the potential for safety hazards, place the unit on a firm and level sur-face. When placing the unit on a shelf,be certain that the shelf and anymounting hardware can support theamplifier’s weight.n Make certain that the proper space isprovided both above and below theunit for ventilation. If the amplifierwill be installed in a cabinet or otherenclosed area, make certain that thereis sufficient air movement within thecabinet. Consult with your dealer orinstaller for more information.n Do not place the unit directly on a car-peted surface.n Avoid installation in extremely hot orcold locations, in an area that isexposed to direct sunlight or nearheating equipment.n Avoid moist or humid locations.n Do not obstruct the ventilation slots onthe top of the unit or place objectsdirectly over them. Remember, poweramplifiers generate heat, and the heatsink fins and ventilation slots thatform part of the cabinet are speciallydesigned to remove this heat. Placingother electronic equipment near theseheat-dissipation systems may possiblyaffect the long-term reliability of bothyour amplifier and the objects placedabove it.CleaningWhen the unit gets dirty, wipe it with aclean, soft and dry cloth. If necessary, first wipe the surface with a soft clothslightly dampened with mild soapy water, followed by a fresh cloth with cleanwater. Wipe immediately with a dry cloth.Never use benzene, thinner, alcohol orany other volatile cleaning agent. Do notuse abrasive cleaners, as they may dam-age the finish of metal parts. Avoid spray-ing insecticide near the unit.Moving the UnitBefore moving the unit, be certain to dis-connect any interconnection cords withother components, and make certainthat you disconnect the unit from the ACoutlet.
