Getting started 2-3Power saver featureYour monitor documentation should indicate whether your monitor has a powersaver feature. This feature may be called Display Power Management Signaling(DPMS). With DPMS, the monitor's display goes blank if you have not used yourcomputer for a predetermined period of time. To redisplay the screen, press theshift key on your keyboard or move the mouse.If your monitor has a power saver feature, you can set the energy saving features ofthe monitor in the Control Panel in Windows.“Automatic Power On” on page 4-15 forinstructions on using this feature.Changing display settingsThe first time you turn on your computer, it automatically selects common settingsfor your monitor. If your monitor supports Display Data Channel (DDC), thecomputer automatically selects the best refresh rate your monitor can support. Therefresh rate determines how quickly the screen image is drawn on the screen. Thissetting can be changed.If you purchased a monitor that does not support DDC, you may want to changeyour monitor's refresh rate setting. With any monitor, you may want to customizeone or more display properties.Customizing display propertiesIn Windows, you can change display options such as screen resolution, number ofcolors, refresh rate, and the size of displayed characters.If you need assistance while selecting display properties settings, click the questionmark in the upper right corner of the window. Your mouse cursor will change into aquestion mark. Then click on the area you would like information about. If helpinformation is available for the topic, it will be display at that time.To customize your display properties:1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop.2. In the My Computer window, double-click on the Control Panel folder.3. In the Control Panel window, double-click on the Display icon.4. In the Display Properties window, click on the Settings tab.
