Light path diagnostics LEDsThe following table lists the LEDs on the light path diagnostics panel, the problemsthat they indicate, and actions to solve the problems.LED Problem ActionPOWER SUPPLY 1 Lit LED: Power supply 1 has failed. 1. Remove ac power from the server.2. Replace the power supply; then, reconnect the serverto ac power and restart the server.Flashing LED: Power supply 1 wasremoved in a redundantpower-supply configuration.Install a new power supply in the PS1 location.POWER SUPPLY 2 Lit LED: Power supply 2 has failed. 1. Remove ac power from the server.2. Replace the power supply; then, reconnect the serverto ac power and restart the server.Flashing LED: Power supply 2 wasremoved in a redundant powersupply configuration.Install a new power supply in the PS2 location.MEMORY A memory error has occurred. Replace the failing DIMM, indicated by the lit LED on thesystem board.CONFIG See the note following this table. See the note following this table.DASD/RAID A hard disk drive, integrated SCSIcontroller, or integrated RAID errorhas occurred. This LED will also belit when a hard disk drive isremoved from the server.v Check the LEDs on the hard disk drives and replacethe indicated drive.v Check the LEDs on the system board and replace theindicated component.v If a hard disk drive LED remains lit after beingreplaced, call for service.TEMP The system temperature hasexceeded a threshold level.v Determine whether a fan has failed. If it has, replaceit.v Make sure that the room temperature is not too high.See “Features and specifications” on page 5 fortemperature information.v Make sure that the air vents are not blocked. If the problem remains, call for service.FAN A fan has failed or is operating tooslowly. A failing fan can also causethe TEMP LED to be lit.Replace the failing fan, indicated by the lit LED.CPU A microprocessor has failed. If a lit LED on the system board indicates a problem witha microprocessor, make sure that the microprocessor isinstalled correctly. See the Option Installation Guide onthe IBM xSeries Documentation CD for information aboutinstalling a microprocessor. If the problem remains, call for service.S_ERR A soft error has occurred. 1. Restart the server.2. Update the firmware and adapter drivers.3. Check the POST error logIf the problem remains, call for service.VRM The VRM or integrated VRD hasfailed.v Remove ac power from the server, and then restartthe server.v If the LED next to the VRM is lit, replace thepluggable VRM.v If the LED next to the integrated VRD is lit, call forservice.Chapter 6.
