See“Setup Utility program” on page 7 for information about running the Setup Utility.Power-on passwordA power-on password denies access to the computer by an unauthorized userwhen the computer is powered on. When a power-on password is active, thepassword prompt appears on the screen each time the computer is powered on.The computer starts after the proper password is entered.Removing a power-on passwordTo service a computer with an active and unknown power-on password, power-offthe computer and use the following procedure.Note: On some models, this procedure will also remove the administrator password.1. Unplug the power cord and remove the top cover.2. Refer to “A40/A40P/A40i system board layout” on page 29 to find therecovery jumper.3. Move the recovery jumper from normal to clear.4.
