82 IBM Desktop System HMMRemovals and ReplacementsBEFORE REMOVING ANY FRU, POWER-OFF THECOMPUTER, UNPLUG ALL POWER CORDS FROMELECTRICAL OUTLETS, THEN DISCONNECT ANYINTERCONNECTING CABLES.ATTENTION: The system board, processors, adaptercards, DIMMs, and upgrade processors can bedamaged by electrostatic discharge. Use anelectrostatic discharge (ESD) strap to establishpersonal grounding. If you don't have an ESDstrap, establish personal grounding bytouching a ground point with one hand beforetouching the static-sensitive FRUs.The arrows in the removals and replacementsprocedures show the direction of movement toremove a field-replaceable unit (FRU), to turn ascrew, or the direction to press a tab to release theFRU.Begin all removals by removing the cover (and rearcover, if applicable).When other FRUs must be removed prior to removingthe failing FRU, they are listed at the top of the page.Go to the removal procedure for each FRU listed,remove the FRU, and then continue with the removalof the failing FRU.To replace a FRU, reverse the removal procedureand follow any notes that pertain to replacement.Before disconnecting any cables, note their locationand orientation. Reinstall any new FRUs with cablingin their original location.
