Installing an adapterThe following notes describe the types of adapters that the server supports andother information that you must consider when you install an adapter:v To confirm that the server supports the adapter that you are installing, seehttp://www.ibm.com/systems/info/x86servers/serverproven/compat/us/.v Locate the documentation that comes with the adapter and follow thoseinstructions in addition to the instructions in this section. If you have to changeswitch settings or jumper settings on the adapter, follow the instructions thatcome with the adapter.v The expansion slots in the PCI riser cards accommodate the various form factorsof the non-hot-plug adapters as follows:– Expansion slot 2: Low-profile with 2U bracket– Expansion slot 3: Full-height, half-length– Expansion slot 4: Full-height, half-lengthv Some high performance video adapters are supported by your server. Seehttp://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/ for moreinformation.v The optional NVIDIA FX 580 video adapter must be installed in expansion slot 3on the PCI riser-card assembly.v The optional ServerRAID M1015 SAS/SATA adapter must be installed inexpansion slot 3 on the PCI riser-card assembly if both VMware and ServerRAIDM5025 SAS/SATA adapter are installed in the server.v The optional ServeRAID-BR10il v2 adapter must be installed in expansion slot 2on the PCI riser-card assembly.Attention: Some cluster solutions require specific code levels or coordinatedcode updates. If the device is part of a cluster solution, verify that the latest levelof code is supported for the cluster solution before you update the code. The following illustration shows the locations of the adapter expansion slots fromthe rear of the server. To install an adapter, complete the following steps:1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”on page 31.2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect all power cords andexternal cables (see “Turning off the server” on page 19).3. Remove the cover (see “Removing the cover” on page 40).4. Remove the PCI riser-card assembly (see “Removing the PCI riser-cardassembly” on page 42).5. Determine which expansion slot you will use for the adapter.6. Install the adapter:a.
